Days after Dipu Chandra’s lynching, another Hindu man was beaten to death in Rajbari’s Pangsha sub-district. The incident took place around three-and-a-half hours from Dhaka.
Hindu man killed in Rajbari
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Amrit Mandal alias Samrat. He was lynched by a mob led by a local resident, Shahidul Islam, over suspicion of theft. Police have recovered Amrit’s body and arrested 15 people, including Shaidul, in the case.
Extortion accusation sparks lynching
A Pangsha Model Police Station officer said that Amrit Mandal was allegedly accused of extortion and was the leader of a criminal gang called “Samrat Bahini.” As per reports, locals accused him of extortion, and their anger turned into mob violence.
Amrit had fled the country after ouster of the Sheikh Hasina’s government in 2024. He recently returned to the nation and went to his village Hosendanga in Kalimohor union.
Amrit beaten to death
On December 24, Amrit reportedly went to Shahidul Islam’s home to extort money, along with his gang members. The family members started shouting that the gang members were robbers, and soon a crowd gathered at the spot. The villagers held Amrit and brutally thrashed him to death. The other members of the gang managed to flee from the scene.
Amrit declared dead on arrival
ASP of Pangsha Circle said that Amrit was rushed to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival by doctors. The ASP added that at least two cases had been registered against Amrit at the Pangsha Police Station, one of them for murder charges.
Police also held one of Amrit’s gang members and recovered a pistol along with other firearms from his possession. In 2024, over 200 cases of lynching of Hindus were registered, which included major incidents in Dhaka and Chittagong.
