A deadly explosion has shook Bangladesh’s Dhaka region on Wednesday, intensifying concerns as violence continues across several parts of the country. As per the details, the blast took place near the Moghbazar flyover. In the aftermath of the explosion, locals seemed dazed and confused.
While a full-on probe is missing, officials have confirmed that one person has lost his life in the incident, and several others have sustained injuries. The explosion has reportedly occurred at a time when the market was crowded. The injured were rushed to the hospital in ambulances.
Witnesses reported that an explosive device was hurled from the flyover and detonated after hitting the ground below, leaving a man critically injured. The victim, later identified by family members as Siam, succumbed to his injuries shortly after the blast.
A police official said preliminary information indicates that a cocktail bomb was thrown from the flyover, striking the victim and exploding on impact. Authorities are working to identify those responsible for the attack.
Relatives stated that Siam was employed at a private factory and happened to be in the area when the explosion occurred. His identity was initially unclear and was confirmed later by his family.
Police quickly sealed off the location following the incident as panic spread in the vicinity. The perpetrators reportedly fled immediately after throwing the explosive.
Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said early findings support the theory that the device was thrown from above the flyover. He added that the motive remains unknown and investigations are ongoing. No organisation has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
