Satkhira, Bangladesh: A crown of goddess Kali, gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was reportedly stolen from Jeshoreshwari Temple in Satkhira, Bangladesh. Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star reported, that the silver, gold-plated crown was stolen on Thursday afternoon after the priest left the temple following the day’s worship. The cleaning staff later found that the crown was missing from the deity’s head.
Ongoing Investigation
No one has been caught so far in connection with the theft. Inspector Taizul Islam of Shyamnagar Police Station said, “We are reviewing the temple CCTV footage to identify the thief.”

Prime Minister Modi’s Visit To The Temple
PM Modi visited the Jeshoreshwari temple, revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths during his trip to Bangladesh in March 2021. The stolen silver and gold-plated crown carries cultural and religious significance for the devotees of the goddess Kali.
The Prime Minister shared his visit to the temple on X, which was the first foreign visit he made after the COVID pandemic.

About Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple
Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple is located at Ishwaripur, a village in Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira. It is believed to have been built by a Brahman named Anari with 100 doors, in the latter half of the 12th century. The temple was later renovated by Lakshman Sen during the 13th century and was finally rebuilt during the 16th century by Raja Pratapaditya.
