A plane en route from Baku to Grozny crashed at Aktau airport, Kazakhstan on Wednesday after making several circles over the airport, Kazakh media reported. The shocking incident took place after the aircraft authorities reportedly requested for an emergency landing.
Over 67 people were reportedly on board, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members, local authorities said. There are a total of 25 survivors, out of which 22 have been hospitalized, Kazakhstan’s emergency ministry said. The flight was rerouted to Aktau due to heavy fog in Grozny.

Information on the casualties or the exact cause of the crash is still unclear. Initial reports indicate that there are survivors, while many are feared dead. The plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines has been identified as Embraer 190 aircraft (Flight No. J2-8243). It made a forced emergency landing approximately 3 km (1.8 miles) from Aktau, reports added. More details awaited.
