Bali: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed and interacted with over 800 members of the Indian diaspora on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

Amid cheers and slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, a huge crowd of people dressed in Indian attire and turbans greeted Prime Minister Modi with folded hands as he arrived at the venue to interact with the Indian community, news agency PTI reported, adding that he also played the drums as he arrived.

As he arrived at the venue, the prime minister was greeted by the sound of rhythmic drumming. Modi joined in the festivities and played the drums for a few beats alongside the drummers, who cheered him on, the report said.

During his address, the prime minister highlighted the close cultural and civilizational linkages between India and Indonesia, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

He referred to the age old tradition of “Bali Jatra” to highlight the enduring cultural and trade connect between the two countries. He also highlighted the commonalities between India and Indonesia in various sectors.

The prime minister appreciated the community members for enhancing the stature and prestige of India abroad through hard work and dedication to their adopted motherland.

He also spoke about the positive trajectory of India-Indonesia relationship, and the crucial role played by Indian community members in its strengthening, PMO said.

PM Modi invites community members for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

PM Modi highlighted India’s growth story, its achievements and tremendous strides that India is making in various fields such as – digital technology, finance, health, telecom and space.

He also mentioned that India’s roadmap for development includes the political and economic aspirations of the world and the vision of self reliant India embodies the spirit of global good.

The prime minister invited the community members and friends of India to attend the next Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention which will be held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh from 8 to 10 January, 2023 and the kite festival which will be held in Gujarat later on.

The annual G20 Leaders’ Summit began on Tuesday with participating world leaders deliberating extensively upon key issues of global concern including challenges posed by Covid-19 under the Summit theme of ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’.

G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation representing around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.
