Threats loom large as Al-Qaeda may take over Mali, a country located in the African continent. The country is struggling with terrorist violence and blockades. After the fall of the civilian government, the rebels tried a failed attempt to run the government backed by Russia and China.
Meanwhile, Al-Qaeda terrorists have seized the capital city, Bamako. They have blocked the fuel supply to the capital, and it is being speculated that Al-Qaeda may soon take control of Bamako.
Meanwhile, several countries have issued travel warnings for Mali for their citizens. The United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Australia have urged their citizens to leave the country immediately.
Italy’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, “Italian citizens currently in Mali are urged to leave the country as soon as possible.”
A similar advisory was issued by the United States on Tuesday. Germany and Australia have also asked their nationals to leave Mali without delay.
Mali is located in West Africa, and the nation is surrounded by Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, and Mauritania. An Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group, Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), already announced a fuel blockade in September. Since then, Mali has been facing crisis.
According to Africa Security Analysis, JNIM is demonstrating its ability to control cross-border movement and disrupt key supply lines crucial for Mali’s military operations.
