A recent video from Pakistan has stirred controversy after Maulana (Cleric) Mufti Abdul Qawi made unusual and objectionable remarks about Bollywood actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In the viral video, the Maulvi claims that Rai might send him a marriage proposal within the next two to four months. Not only this, he also states that he intends to convert her to Islam, marry her. He further added that he has already chosen a Muslim name for Rai, sparking strong reactions.

In a podcast video, Mufti Qawi stated that the relationship between Rai and her husband Abhishek Bachchan is worsening. He stated that if the two partners separate, Rai will message him with a marriage proposal. Qawi said, “I have heard that a separation is developing between the husband and wife (Abhishek and Aishwarya)…God forbid, because I am the one who establishes a family. But if a separation happens, then, Insha’Allah, it should happen within two to four months, then Nikah (marriage) proposal will come from her as well.”

He called receiving Rai’s dream marriage proposal a blessing from Allah. When the podcast host asked Mufti Qawi if he would marry a non-Muslim, he cited Rakhi Sawant, saying her name is now Fatima. He emphasised that he would first convert Rai to Islam and then marry her. He further added that he would first change Rai’s name to Ayesha Rai and then perform Nikah.

Well, this isn’t the first time that Mufti Qawi is making such absurd statements. Earlier this year, the controversial cleric expressed his desire to marry Indian model, dancer, and performer Rakhi Sawant. He had even announced February 14 as the wedding date. According to Qawi, Rakhi herself chose the date of their marriage and was willing to adopt Islamic attire after marriage. However, Rakhi had openly rejected his proposal.
