Air India Flight En Route To Bali Returns To Delhi – Here’s What Happened At Mid-Air

The Air India flight AI2145 heading towards Indonesia's Bali was forced to return as the eruption occurred close to the destination airport in the province.

A Bali-bound Air India flight en route from Delhi returned to the national capital on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. According to reports, the flight was cancelled and diverted back due to a volcanic eruption in the archipelago. The Air India flight AI2145 heading towards Indonesia’s Bali was forced to return as the eruption occurred close to the destination airport in the province.

An Air India Spokesperson said, “On June 18, Air India flight AI2145 en route from Delhi to Bali was advised to return to Delhi due to reports of volcanic eruption near the destination airport, Bali, in the interest of safety. The flight safely landed back in Delhi, and all passengers have been disembarked.” Additionally, the event caused dozens of flights to be cancelled to and from Bali.

Meanwhile, the official added that the affected passengers are being provided with hotel accommodations, full refunds on cancellation, and rescheduling. Multiple Flights were cancelled after Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, located on the tourist island of Flores, erupted around 5.35 pm on Tuesday. The affected flights include Jetstar, China’s Juneyao Airlines, Virgin Australia flights, etc.
