After Trump’s Remark, Russian Envoy Says India’s Oil Decisions Guided by Its National Interest

Alipov said, “This is a question for the Indian government. The Indian government has in mind the national interest of this country in the first place, and our cooperation in energy is very much in tune with those interests.”

Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov on Thursday made it clear that India’s decisions on oil imports are guided by its national interest.

His reactions came after US President Donald Trump said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him that India would stop buying oil from Russia.

When asked if India would continue importing Russian oil, Alipov said, “This is a question for the Indian government. The Indian government has in mind the national interest of this country in the first place, and our cooperation in energy is very much in tune with those interests.”
