The interim government of Bangladesh has registered a protest with the Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka over Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s online address from India where she accused the Muhammad Yunus government of a ‘hatching conspiracy’ to murder her.
The Bangladesh government summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner just after Sheikh Hasina’s speech was broadcast online on all platforms of her party, Awami League. The foreign ministry Advisor Md Tohid Hossain said that they have handed over a protest note to the deputy high commissioner. The interim government said that they have asked India to stop Sheikh Hasina from engaging in such activities but they did not get any response.
The advisor said they protested with acting Indian High Commissioner Pawan Badhe.
Md. Nahid Islam, Adviser for Information & Broadcasting said that Bangladesh has already urged India to send Sheikh Hasina back to Dhaka.
The former prime minister called for justice after her father Mujibur Rahman’s house was vandalised by a mob. Hasina said, “ They can raze down a building but not history. They should keep in mind that history takes its revenge.”
The protesters, reportedly demanding a ban on the Awami League, stormed the premises after breaking open the gate, causing widespread destruction, Dhaka Tribune reported, citing UNB.
Local media linked the protest to an online speech by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Social media posts had earlier called for a “Bulldozer Procession” towards Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence located at Dhanmondi-32.
