Importance Of The Visit, Issues To Be Discussed
Afghan Minister Azizi is on a five-day official visit to India. During this time, the Commerce Minister is expected to attend the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025, where he is scheduled to meet several Indian officials, including those involved in trade and commerce. This marks the Taliban government’s one of the high-stakes visit to the country following their takeover of Kabul in August 2021.
According to reports, India and Afghanistan will likely discuss issues related to expanding bilateral trade volumes. This may include agricultural exports, boosting Indian exports of pharmaceuticals, machinery, and textiles, restoring disrupted payment channels, etc.
Afghan Foreign Minister Concludes 6-Day Visit To India In October
Last month, Afghanistan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in the national capital. During his visit, Muttaqi said that both countries agreed to establish a trade committee to enhance economic cooperation. “Both sides agreed to create a trade committee… Due to opportunities opened in Afghanistan in terms of investment and activities in minerals and energy, we invited the Indian side to explore work in these areas,” Muttaqi said.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the decision highlights India’s resolve to strengthen its bilateral engagement with the Taliban side in all spheres of mutual interest. “In keeping with the decision announced during the recent visit of the Afghan Foreign Minister to India, the Government is restoring the status of the Technical Mission of India in Kabul to that of the Embassy of India in Afghanistan with immediate effect. This decision underscores India’s resolve to deepen its bilateral engagement with the Afghan side in all spheres of mutual interest,” the MEA release said.
