Russia Earthquake- A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Russia’s Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), intensifying its impact along the Pacific coastline. The tremors rocked buildings, prompting the authorities to issue a tsunami alert. Videos circulating on Russian social media captured the quake’s impact, with furniture and light fixtures swaying inside homes, and one clip showing a parked car visibly rocking on the street.
Russia Earthquake- Tsunami warning issued!
The earthquake struck approximately 127 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. At least five aftershocks have been reported by Russia’s state geophysical service. Following the earthquake, the US Pacific Tsunami Warning centre issued Tsunami warning in the region. Governor of Kamchatka Krai, Vladimir Solodov stated on Telegram, “This morning is once again testing the resilience of Kamchatka residents.” He added that there are no reports of damage currently and urged everyone to remain calm in the situation.
“There are currently no reports of damage. I ask everyone to remain calm. A tsunami warning has been issued for the east coast of the peninsula. The public is being alerted,” Solodov added.
