A Singaporean maid was fined massively for the violation of her work pass. She was fined 13,000 Singaporean dollars (approximately Rs 8.8 lakh).
According to a Channel News Asia report, the maid was working for a different employer on her rest days. She has been identified as Pido Erlinda Ocampo, a 53-year-old Filipino. The Ministry of Manpower started a probe in connection with the breach of her terms of employment, as it is considered a violation of the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.
The report further stated that the probe began in December 2024, and the ministry found hints of a possible violation. Ocampo’s employer was also fined 7,000 Singaporean dollars (approximately Rs 4.7 lakh) for hiring the maid. The other employer was identified as Pulak Prasad.
In a separate case, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in close coordination with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), dismantled a transnational cybercrime syndicate that defrauded U.S. nationals of nearly USD 40 million through tech-support scams.
“A big week for #USIndia law enforcement collaboration. India’s CBI, in close coordination with the U.S. @FBI, dismantled a transnational cybercrime syndicate that defrauded U.S. nationals of nearly $40M through tech-support scams — and arrested key figures behind the cyber fraud network,” the US Embassy in India said in an X post.
“Through shared intelligence and coordinated action, both our agencies are working together to dismantle international networks, prevent future scams, and keep our citizens safe. Thank you for your partnership and support, @CBIHeadquarters,” the post added.
