These policemen were on their way to provide security to the polio teams (medical assistants) who were on their way to the vaccination campaign.
Militant outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the blast that took place on Monday.

Terrorists say NO to vaccination
Not that the citizens of Pakistan don’t want to be free from the disease that gives them nothing but a helpless and miserable life but the nation has been seeing massive opposition to the vaccination drive. It was through a vaccination drive that the CIA, the intelligence agency of the USA could trace Osama Bin Laden in the territory who eventually got killed in Abbottabad in 2011.
Religious sentiments?
Somehow the religious leaders of Pakistan, especially those residing near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border believe that vaccination for Polio should be avoided for they consist of traces of pork and alcohol that are forbidden in Islam.
Is vaccination the reason?
Tehreek-i-Taliban has been actively targeting vaccination drives since the killing of Osama. They see them as a potential threat and this time as well they have claimed responsibility for the blast. Hence it won’t be wrong if it’s understood that the polio vaccination drive was the reason behind this attack.
