An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude jolted Afghanistan on Thursday, around 10.26 pm. Meanwhile, tremors were felt in India and Pakistan. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 160 km. There are no immediate reports of any damage or casualties as of now. According to initial information, tremors lasted for a few seconds, creating panic among the residents.
The quake occurred at 34.58 N latitude and 70.66 E longitude. The National Center for Seismology (NCS), in a post on X, stated, "EQ of M: 5.8, On: 04/09/2025 22:26:29 IST, Lat: 34.58 N, Long: 70.66 E, Depth: 160 Km, Location: Afghanistan." This is the third earthquake that has struck Afghanistan within a week.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck Afghanistan again on Thursday morning, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said. As per the statement, the earthquake struck at a depth of 135km. In a post on X, the NCS said, “EQ of M: 4.8, On: 04/09/2025 10:40:56 IST, Lat: 34.38 N, Long: 70.37 E, Depth: 135 Km, Location: Afghanistan.” Earlier, an earthquake struck Afghanistan late Wednesday night at a shallow depth of 10km, making it susceptible to aftershocks.
