The world's largest snake, known as the Northern Green Anaconda, has recently been discovered in the Amazon Rainforest

This colossal snake has the ability to directly swallow large animals and weighs approximately 200 kg, which is three times the average human weight.

The discovery was made by wildlife presenter Professor Freak Vonk during an expedition in a remote area of Brazil

Prior to this finding, the reticulated python held the title of the largest known snake species, averaging 20 feet 5 inches in length

The northern green anaconda is now recognized as a separate species from the giant anaconda, which was the only species previously acknowledged in the Amazon.

Professor Vonk, a 40-year-old Dutch biologist, and 14 other scientists from nine countries conducted a study on the northern green anaconda, revealing it to be the world's largest snake species.

The genetic difference between the northern green anaconda and other green anacondas found in the Amazon is significant, at 5.5 percent

The new species has been given the Latin name Eunectes akayama, with "akayama" meaning great snake in several indigenous languages of northern South America
