North American Black Bear North American black bears are omnivores.  Their diet consists mainly of plant matter.  The black bear is wild and lives up to 25 years.

Brown Bear Brown bears vary in colour from almost black,  or brown to very light brown or blonde. Sizes vary greatly depending on geographic location and general food availability.

Polar Bear Polar bears are one of the largest bears in the world. An adult male can reach 800 kilograms (kg) or 1760 pounds (lbs). The average male Ontario polar bear weighs about 1100 pounds (500 kg).

Asiatic black bear The Asian black bear has a long, often crescent-shaped  black coat with a distinct white patch on the chest.  The fur around the shoulders and neck is particularly long,  and the ears are relatively large.

Andean Bear Most scientists refer to the spectacled bear as the Andean bear. Bears are an endangered species, with males weighing  100-200 kg (220-440 lbs) and females 35-82 kg (77-181 lbs).

Panda Bear Giant pandas are rare, endangered and elusive bears.  They are famous for their love of bamboo. Bamboo is so nutrient-poor that pandas must eat up to 20 kg each day.

Sloth bear Sloth bears are stocky with long, shaggy black hair and a white U- or Y-shaped marking on their chest. They have large lips, long tongues, brightly coloured noses, and well-developed hooked claws that enable them to climb trees and search for termites.

Sun Bear They are the smallest bear species. The sun bear has  a short black/dark brown waterproof coat with a yellow  crescent on its chest. They have powerful legs with bare feet  and long sickle-shaped claws.
