1 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 2 large eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon salt, 1 cup buttermilk.
Mix cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy, add eggs and vanilla, then alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, and divide the batter between the prepared pans.
Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in brown sugar until dissolved, add heavy cream and boil until thickened, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt, letting it cool.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes.
Beat softened butter until smooth, gradually add powdered sugar, then stir in butterscotch sauce, beating until the frosting is creamy.
Once the cakes have cooled, spread butterscotch frosting between the layers and cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
For decoration, you can garnish with chopped nuts.
