Understanding Déjà Vu: The Science Behind It

Rishika Baranwal

Déjà vu is the eerie feeling of reliving a moment you think you've experienced before.

It’s the sensation that a current experience feels familiar, like you've lived it before, even though it's happening for the first time.

Theories include memory overlap where new experiences feel familiar and temporal lobe epilepsy, which can cause these sensations.

Déjà vu might involve the temporal lobe and hippocampus, areas responsible for memory. A minor glitch here can create a sense of familiarity.

Stress, fatigue, or anxiety can affect memory recall and perception, possibly triggering déjà vu.
