Tangy And Delicious Tamarind Rice: A South Indian Classic

Ingredients For The Rice

- 2 cups cooked riceĀ  - 1/4 tsp turmeric powder - 1/4 cup roasted peanuts - Fresh coriander for garnish

Ingredients For Tamarind Paste

- 1/4 cup tamarind (soaked in water and strained) - 1 tbsp oil - 1/2 tsp mustard seeds - 1 tsp urad dal - 1 tsp chana dal - A few dried red chilies - 1/4 tsp asafoetida - Salt to taste - Curry leaves (a handful)

Making The Tamarind Paste

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Once they turn golden, add red chilies, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Pour in tamarind water and cook until the mixture thickens.

Combining Rice With Tamarind Paste

In a large bowl, add the cooked rice, turmeric powder, and tamarind paste. Mix gently to coat the rice without breaking the grains.

Adding Peanuts

Add roasted peanuts for a crunchy texture. Mix well and adjust salt if needed.

Garnish And Serve
