Satish Kaushik joined the National School of Theatre and the Cinema and Television Institute of India after receiving his college diploma.

He made his acting debut in the 1983 movie "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" after relocating to Mumbai in 1980.

Kaushik contributed dialogue to the legendary comedy  "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" by Kundan Shah.

In 1985, he wed his wife Shashi. Sadly, Shanu, the couple's  2-year-old child, passed away. Later, in 2012, they adopted their daughter Vanshika through surrogacy.
