Wheeled Stretcher Rescue
The 41 trapped workers will be individually evacuated using wheeled stretchers, each guided through a large pipe pushed into the debris. NDRF personnel will navigate the stretchers to prevent any injuries.
Challenges and Considerations
While the option of having the workers crawl out was evaluated, their health condition after 13 days under debris, lacking light and proper meals, might hinder such attempts. Supplies have been provided through small lifeline pipes.
Visual Confirmation
A camera inserted through a pipe allowed the first visuals of the trapped workers. They were seen in work gear, signaling their well-being despite the adverse conditions.
Drilling Progress
The drilling to reach the trapped workers resumed after a brief halt due to technical issues. Approximately 48 out of 58 meters have been drilled, nearing completion for their evacuation.
Challenges Faced
Efforts faced challenges due to the rocky topography, falling debris, and landslides in the past week, impacting the rescue mission's progress.
All trapped workers have access to food and water via steel pipes drilled into the opening. A continuous joint operation involves various agencies, including NDRF, SDRF, BRO, ITBP, an international tunnelling expert team, and a robotics team from DRDO.
