– 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour – 1 cup unsalted butter, softened – 1 cup powdered sugar – 1 egg – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon peppermint extract – Red food coloring
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract. Gradually mix in flour to form a dough.
Divide the dough into two halves. Add red food coloring to one half and knead until evenly colored.
Take a small piece of red dough and a small piece of plain dough. Roll them into ropes, twist together, and shape into candy canes.
Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes until just set. Let cool before handling.
