How To Make Authentic Bihari Dal Pitha At Home

Ingredients

For the Dough: – 2 cups rice flour – Water (as needed) – Pinch of salt For the Filling: – 1 cup soaked chana dal  – 1 tsp cumin seeds, Ajwain – 1 tsp finely chopped green chilies – 1 inch Ginger, 3 cloves Garlic – Salt to taste – 1/4 teaspoon Whole Black Peppercorns

Preparing The Dough

– Boil water with a pinch of salt. – Gradually add rice flour and stir until it forms a dough. – Knead the dough until smooth and pliable. Cover and set aside.

Prepare The Filling

– Grind-soaked chana dal coarsely. – Heat oil in a pan; add cumin seeds, green chillies, and ginger paste. – Add the ground dal and cook until dry. Season with salt.

Assembling The Pitha

– Take a small portion of the dough and flatten it into a circle. – Place a spoonful of the dal filling in the center.

Shape The Pitha

– Fold the edges and seal to form a dumpling.

Steaming The Pitha

1. Arrange the dumplings on a greased steaming tray. 2. Steam for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.
