Established in 2002, this day commemorates the first public animation screening on October 28, 1892.
Charles-Emile Reynaud debuted “Pantomimes Lumineuses” at the Grevin Museum, featuring three cartoons.
In 1888, Reynaud patented a machine that used mirrors and painted images, requiring skilled operation.
Each animation ran about 15 minutes, with live piano and dialogue accompanying Reynaud’s projections.
With the rise of the ‘lumiere style,’ audiences shifted away from Reynaud's performances.
Unable to adapt, Reynaud destroyed his last machine and films in 1913, ending his legacy.
