Grey seals are exceptional divers, plung as deep as 300 meters in search of food. They can stay submerged for up to 30 minutes.
Their unique "grey" fur, Roman-style nose and sensitive whiskers, them navigate and hunt in the dark waters.
They can bark, growl, and even produce underwater "chirps" or "grunts" that help them communicate with each other, especially during breeding season.
Highly playful, engage in social behaviours like body surfing, chasing each other, demonstrating intelligence and curiosity.
Have a thick layer of blubber beneath their skin. It acts as an energy reserve during fasting periods when they are not feeding.
Grey seals have a long lifespan, living up to 35 years in the wild.
Female grey seals are highly protective of their pups, nursing them for about 3 weeks on land until they are strong enough to swim and hunt independently.
