The most common type, ischemic strokes occur when blood vessels supplying the brain become blocked or narrowed. This blockage is often due to blood clots or fatty deposits, leading to decreased blood flow.
Hemorrhagic strokes happen when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, causing bleeding. This can result from conditions like high blood pressure, aneurysms, or head injury.

Often called a mini-stroke, a TIA is a temporary period of symptoms similar to those of a stroke. A TIA doesn’t cause permanent damage but is a warning sign of a future stroke. It occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is briefly interrupted.
A silent stroke shows no noticeable symptoms but causes damage to the brain. It is often discovered incidentally during brain imaging for other conditions. Silent strokes increase the risk of future strokes and cognitive decline.
A stroke occurring in the brain stem can affect both sides of the body and might lead to paralysis. It can impact functions like breathing, heart rate, and balance, making it particularly dangerous.
