Classic Homemade Green Bean Casserole

Boil 12 cups of water with 1 tbsp salt. Add green beans & simmer for 5 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain &  rinse with cold water.

Boil

Heat oil in a large skillet. Add mushrooms, onions, garlic, & thyme. Sauté until tender. Season with salt & pepper, then set aside.

Sauté Veggies

In the same pan, melt butter and cook until lightly browned. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.

Prepare The Gravy

Whisk in broth and simmer, then season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of cayenne. Stir in green beans & mushrooms, then taste.

Add Green Beans

Transfer the green bean mixture to a greased 8×8 dish and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Bake

Add crispy fried onions when there are 5 minutes left. Serve and enjoy.
