Whip butter, sugar, and vanilla until creamy, then add eggs one at a time and whip until fluffy.
Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt to form a soft dough.
Wrap the dough in plastic and chill for a couple of hours.
Preheat oven to 180°C, then roll chilled dough to 1-inch thickness and cut into shapes.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on thickness, then cool completely.
Decorate as desired, let set for an hour, and store in an airtight container.
