Bengaluru will witness the rare event of Zero Shadow Day, during which shadows will completely disappear.
On April 24th, between 12:17 PM and 12:23 PM, the sun will be positioned directly overhead, causing the shadows to vanish.
Zero Shadow Day occurs twice a year when the sun is directly overhead, resulting in objects casting no shadows at noon.
It's observed in places sharing the same latitude as Bengaluru, located between +23.5 and -23.5 degrees.
During Zero Shadow Day, the sun's declination is equal to the latitude of the area, occurring once during Uttarayan and once during Dakshinayan
Zero Shadow Day serves not only as a celestial spectacle but also helps in verifying the sun's position and calibrating astronomical instruments.
While the event itself doesn't pose safety risks, it's essential to avoid looking directly at the sun to prevent eye damage.
