UEFA Champions League will undergo significant changes starting in 2024/25 season, introducing a new league phase format that replaces the traditional group stage.
The competition will expand from 32 to 36 teams, all which will be ranked together in a single league.
Each team will play eight matches against different opponents, drawn from four seeding pots, with matches evenly split between home and away.
This new structure aims to in increase the variety of matchups and enhance the competition's excitement by allowing clubs to face a broader range of opponents in the tournaments.
Further qualification in the league will continue to depend on the club's performance and UEFA coefficients.
The top eight teams in the phase will automatically advance to the round of 16.
The teams ranking from 9th to 24th will enter a knockout play-off for the remaining spots.
The knockout rounds will continue in a similar format to the current system, leading up to a final played at a neutral venue.
These chances are designed to keep the Champions League competitive and relevent, offering more matches and higher stakes throughout the season.
