With temperatures in North India reaching 48 degrees Celsius, air conditioners (ACs) have become essential. However, AC units can cause fire hazards if not properly maintained.
Here are some tips to keep you and your AC safe.
A clogged filter restricts airflow, forcing the AC to overwork and overheat. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations, but generally, change the filter regularly during peak usage periods.
Debris such as leaves and twigs can block the condenser coils resulting in efficiency reduction and risk of overheating; so, gently spray it with water to clear, but avoid using a power washer, which can damage the fins.
Ensure the outdoor unit has ample space around it for proper ventilation. This helps maintain efficient operation and reduces the risk of overheating.
Have a qualified technician inspect your AC at the right interval, check for loose connections, and identify potential problems before they arise.
Unusual noises or odors can indicate impending danger. If your AC makes grinding noises, vibrates excessively, or emits a burning smell, shut it off immediately and contact a technician.
