Fifteen years ago, director Anurag Kashyap's 'Dev.D' starred Abhay Deol. It was their only collaboration. Why didn't they work together again, and why has a cold war started between them now? Let's explore these questions.
In 2020, Anurag Kashyap revealed that working with Abhay Deol was painful because Abhay tried to leverage his Deol status. Despite the film's low budget, while the crew stayed in Paharganj, Abhay insisted on staying in a 5-star hotel.
Anurag Kashyap revealed that Abhay's behavior made other directors hesitant to work with him. Recently, amidst promoting his web series 'Trial By Fire', Abhay spoke out on the issue in an interview, sparking controversy.
Abhay said, "Anurag Kashyap lies about me publicly. I never asked for a 5-star hotel. In fact, he himself told me, 'You're a Deol, you should stay in a 5-star hotel,' and later he lied about me in the media."
Abhay said his experience working with Anurag in 'Dev.D' was not good and he won't work with him again. He acknowledged learning from Anurag but has since avoided directors who claim to be filmmakers but are deceitful and toxic.
Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap is actively promoting his web series. In a recent interview with Janice Sequeira, when asked about Abhay Deol's remarks, he mentioned, "I haven't met Abhay since 'Dev.D'."
Anurag added that Abhay wasn't part of 'Dev.D' promotions and they never spoke. He acknowledged Abhay's accusations but emphasized there's more to the story. Anurag hinted at undisclosed truths that could impact their reputation.
