The dispute stemmed from a ₹1,500 transaction
Vengupal had lent ₹1,500 to a friend, but when he failed to return the money despite repeated requests, his wife pressured him to return it. Frustrated by this, Vengupal decided to go to the police station and file a complaint.
On Sunday, he arrived at the police station in an inebriated state and demanded immediate action. The police first asked him to calm down and told him to file a complaint later.
A spectacle outside the police station
Angered by the police’s response, Vengupal suddenly ran out and climbed an 11 KV power pole in front of the police station. From there, he began shouting loudly and threatened to jump to his death if his issue was not resolved.
Police vigilance averted a tragedy
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the police immediately cut off the power supply and attempted to persuade him. After a long struggle, Vengupal was safely brought down. As soon as he came down, the police breathed a sigh of relief and, after counseling, sent him home.
Police statement
The police say that this action was taken in a state of frustration and intoxication. They appealed to the general public to resolve such problems through legal means and not resort to extreme measures.
