The United States on Thursday launched a “deadly” strike against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in northwest Nigeria, US President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social. Trump stated that the operation was carried out in response to attacks by ISIS militants against Christians in the region. He added that the strike was ordered by him as Commander-in-Chief and executed by the US military, warning that terrorists responsible for such violence would face severe consequences.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries! I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” Trump said.
Trump warns of further attacks
Appreciating the strikes conducted by the Department of War, he asserted that only the United States is capable of carrying out such “perfect” strikes. He further warned that the US will not allow “radical Islamic terrorism” to flourish in the country and if the slaughter of Christians continue, there will be more strikes.
“The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our country will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper. May God bless our military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues,” Trump added.
Notably, earlier on December 19, the US and Jordanian forces had carried out large-scale air strikes against the Islamic State terror group in Syria. More than 70 ISIS targets were hit with over 100 precision-guided munitions, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said. In a post on X, CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out overnight and described the operation as a demonstration of “peace through strength.” The command also released a video showing footage of the air strikes. This development came days after a suspected ISIS attacker targeted a convoy of US and Syrian forces in the central Syrian town of Palmyra.
