Aadhaar Update: If you have to update any details on your Aadhaar card and then you don’t have to visit an Aadhaar card center or any shop, this can be done online from the comfort of your home for free.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is allowed to update Aadhaar cards for free for the next 10 days. Till now, a fee of Rs 50 had to be paid for updating selected Aadhaar card details online.
Importance of updating Aadhaar
UIDAI has made it mandatory to update the Aadhaar card for those whose information was updated or registered before 10 years. That means the Aadhar card will have to be updated once every 10 years. The government body has clarified that citizens should keep updating their city or address, and information like mobile number or email address.
Guidelines for Children’s Aadhaar Card
The government has issued guidelines for Children’s Aadhaar cards. The guidelines made it mandatory to update the biometrics of children as soon as they turn 15 years of age. This is compulsory for preventing fraud related to Aadhaar.
Steps to update Aadhaar
– Visit UIDAI website (uidai.gov.in)
– Click on the ‘My Aadhaar’ tab, then select ‘Update Your Aadhaar’ from the drop-down menu
– Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha verification code, and click on ‘Send OTP’ option
– login with OTP
– Next, while selecting the demographic details, you will have to make the necessary changes and upload the scanned copy of the relevant documents
– Click on ‘Submit Update Request
You will get the Update Request Number (URN) through SMS, with the help of which the status of the request can be tracked. After the stipulated time, you will start getting the option to download the updated Aadhar card.
