The incident took place at the Fulwaria bypass in the Kotwali Dehat police station limits, where a Delhi-bound passenger bus (UP 22 AT 0245) travelling from Sunauli was struck by a truck (UP 21 DT 5237) loaded with warm clothes. The impact was so severe that the bus rammed into a high-tension electricity line, leading to a short circuit that engulfed the vehicle in flames within seconds.
As the fire intensified, many passengers shattered the bus windows to escape. Police personnel and fire brigade teams arrived swiftly and began rescue operations, simultaneously working to bring the blaze under control. The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
The truck, too, caught fire following the collision and firefighters managed to extinguish it after considerable effort. A majority of the passengers on board the bus were from Nepal.
Officials also revealed that the bus driver and conductor have not yet been located and attempts to find them are ongoing. A detailed probe has been initiated to establish the exact circumstances that led to the accident and assess any signs of negligence.
