Tirupati Laddoo Row: Rajasthan Govt Runs Campain For Prasad Quality Check, 54 Temples Applied For 'Bhog Certificate'

As row over purity of ‘Tirupati Prasad’ escalates, Rajasthan Government has ordered to run prasad quality check drive in temples. Rajasthan’s Food Safety Department will launch a special campaign from 23 to 26 September to check the quality of prasad which is being served to the devotees. Samples of Savamani and the prasad given regularly in temples will be tested under this campaign.

The inspection will be done under the campaign ‘Shuddh Aahar, Milawat Par Vaar’ across Rajasthan on the initiative of Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma. This campaign was launched on 15 February 2024.

According to Additional Commissioner of Food Safety Department, Pankaj Ojha, all the big temples where prasad is made daily in the form of bhog and the quality of various food items will be checked. Along with the quality hygiene will also be inspected. The concerned departments have been informed and a special team will run the campaign.

What Is Bhog Certification?

The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) had launched Bhog certification program under the ‘Eat Right India’ initiative. This program aims to improve the hygiene and sanitation standards at places of worship. The goal of the program is to ensure that the food served at places of worship is safe and hygienic for devotees and pilgrims. Under this scheme, vendors selling prasads and food items at religious places are given Bhog certificates after the inspection.

So far, 54 religious places and temples in Rajasthan have been registered for the Bhog Certificate by the Food Safety and Drug Control Department, Jaipur.
