BANGKOK: There are at least 34 people were killed on Thursday at a children’s pre-school day-care centre in Nong Bua Lamphu, a northeastern province of Thailand, according to Bangkok Police.

Police in a statement said that victims included both children and adults, adding that the gunman was an ex-police officer. The gunman is still at large and a manhunt is underway. The motive of the attacker on the day care centre is still unknown.

The prime minister has put all agencies on toes to apprehend the culprit, a government spokesperson said.

The rate of gun ownership in Thailand is high compared with some other countries in the region but official figures do not include huge numbers of illegal weapons, many of which have been brought in across porous borders over the years from strife-torn neighbours.
