Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), is expected to be named the new BCCI secretary if Jay Shah, the current secretary, ascends to the role of chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah has yet to submit his nomination for the ICC position.

Rohan Jaitley To Take Over As The New BCCI Secretary

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, there is increasing consensus within the BCCI for Rohan, the son of the late Arun Jaitley, to take over from Shah. Meanwhile, other senior officials, including BCCI president Roger Binny, are set to remain in their roles, as they still have another year left in their terms.

On Saturday, PTI reported that former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya has been mentioned as a potential candidate to succeed Jay Shah, alongside Rohan Jaitley. Other younger state unit officials under consideration include Dilsher Khanna from Punjab, Vipul Phadke from Goa, and Prabhtej Bhatia from Chhattisgarh, who previously served on the IPL Governing Council.

“Obviously, it can happen as there are no hard and fast rules. But if you look at BCCI’s power structure, president, secretary and treasurer are three key posts,” said a former BCCI secretary.

“There are people who have been in the system and someone just coming and bypassing them normally doesn’t happen. But first, is Jay ready to go to the ICC? Even if he doesn’t go now, he can go anytime,” he added.

Jay Shah Likely To Be The New ICC Chairman

Greg Barclay, the current ICC chairman, announced that he will step down at the end of his third term on November 30. This news has led to speculation that Jay Shah might be a strong contender for the role, with the numbers appearing to support his bid.

Shah is reportedly backed by 15 of the 16 ICC Board members, but he has less than 24 hours to decide whether to pursue the position while he still has a year remaining in his second consecutive term as BCCI secretary. The new ICC chairman is set to assume office on December 1, with the nomination deadline being August 27.

If Shah decides to pursue the role, he would become the youngest ICC chairman ever at the age of 35, following in the footsteps of Indian predecessors like Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
