New Delhi: The country is going to get a new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) today. Lt Gen Anil Chauhan will take over as CDS today. Anil Chauhan will replace General Bipin Rawat and will be the second CDS of the country. The post was vacant after the death of the country’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash in December last year.
Post of CDS introduced in 2019
It is worth noting that the Government of India had created the post of Chief of Defense Staff in the year 2019. In January 2020, the then General Bipin Rawat took over as the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff. The post of CDS was lying vacant for a long time after the death of General Rawat on December 08, 2021.
Anil Chauhan has served army for 40 years
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan was currently serving as Military Advisor in the National Security Council. 61-year-old Anil Chauhan has a career spanning nearly 40 years in the Indian Army. During this he had many command and staff. He was appointed as DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) during the Balakot air strike in February 2019.
Led Ops in J&K, North-East
Anil Chauhan also led military operations against extremist and separatist movements in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast India. He retired from the army in May last year. “Even after his retirement from the army, he continues to contribute to national security and strategic matters,” the official statement said.
Newly appointed CDS Lt. General Anil Chauhan (Seni) is originally a resident of Rampur Kanda Bhudana, Gram Sabha of Khirsu block of Pauri district of Uttarakhand. There is a wave of happiness in his native village with the appointment of General Anil Chauhan (Seni) as CDS.
