Mangaluru City police started a search operation for a businessman who went missing as early as Sunday morning. His car was found abandoned and damaged near the Kulur bridge. Police suspect that he may have jumped into the Nethravathi River.

Investigation Begins After Car Discovery

Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal was at the spot on time as reports began trickling in of the missing man. Officials said that B.M. Mumtaz Ali, a 52-year-old left his home driving his car at 3 a.m., and then parked it near the Kulur bridge by 5 a.m. Damage to the car made officials suspicious that he might have jumped into the river.

“Local police reached the area immediately and started looking into the matter,” Agrawal said. When the car was found, Ali’s daughter visited the spot and informed the police that her father was missing. Mumtaz Ali is the brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bava.

Rescue Teams Start The Search

The search is started by SDRF, Fire and Emergency personnel along with the Coast Guard who have been summoned to inspect the river. They’ll establish whether he dived into the water and quickly track him down.

“SDRF and Coast Guard teams are fringing the river to see whether he had jumped into the water or any other development,” Agrawal said. Many people gathered at the Kulur bridge are waiting for news about Ali. Senior police officers are on campus to manage the operations.
