New Delhi: Ahead of Independence Day, the intelligence units and the Delhi police are on high alert following an intel input that decoded a possible terrorist attack in Delhi and Punjab around Independence Day.
Predictions around D-day
As per the inputs, these attacks are not necessarily to happen on August 15 considering the deployment of forces in big numbers on the day but may take place a day or two around D-day.
The movement of two unidentified persons with armaments was reportedly noticed in a village surrounding Kathua. Their possibility of heading towards Pathankot cannot be brushed off, mentioned source citing an intel input.
IEDs found, attack possible
On June 1, a big consignment of explosives (IEDs) reached a hinterland area in Jammu. Intel sources found it suspicious and added that it could be utilized in a possible terror attack on security camps, vehicles or other public installations.
The intel inputs also revealed the activity of ISI-sponsored gangsters and terrorist outfits in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. It was noted that these outfits have been trying to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations and Amarnath Yatra.
High alert issued
A high alert has been issued for Delhi not only for the open celebration on August 15 where the prime minister and thousands of citizens including ministers, business tycoons, and celebrities from across the world gather at the predefined venue and schedule; but also for the limited ‘in-house’ reception hosted by the Indian President at her residence.
