New Delhi: Mahindra Thar SUV has a distinct identity in the Indian market. Compared to the Thar, the Force also launched its Force Gurkha vehicle, which did not do much better. However, now Maruti Suzuki is also going to enter this segment. We have been hearing the news of Maruti Suzuki Jimny for quite some time now. The company can launch its 5-door version in India. Now for the first time this vehicle has been seen during testing in India. The 5-door Jimny may also bring back the ‘Gypsy’ nameplate in our country.
How about 5-Door Jimny
In the leaked images, we can see the increased length and rear door as compared to the 3-door version. One can see a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, chunky alloy wheels, a kink in the front windowline and bumper-mounted LED taillights. There are no interior details as of now, although the vehicle is a right-hand drive (RHD) model which suggests that it is specially made for India. As of now, all units of the three-door Jimny in India are made for export, and sport a left-hand drive (LHD) version.
Engine and price
Apart from this, the feature list of the vehicle will remain the same as that of the new Maruti cars. It will get features like nine-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, six airbags and electronic stability control. The Maruti 5-door Jimny is expected to get a 1.5-litre DualJet petrol engine (103PS/137Nm) that will support mild-hybrid technology like the Grand Vitara and Ertiga. Maruti will also offer it with a 4 wheel drivetrain (4WD). Apart from this, the 140PS, 1.4-litre, Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine can also be found in the SUV. The company can present this car at Auto Expo 2023 and its price can start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
