Heavy downpour lashed the economic capital on Monday, leading to waterlogging in several areas of Mumbai. Around nine flights aborted landings, while one was forced to ‘go around’ due to bad weather conditions. Commuters also faced traffic snarls on the Western Express Highway near Vile Parle.
Airlines asked the travellers to leave their homes early to reach the airport.
IndiGo posted on X, “Travel Advisory. The showers have not taken a break in Mumbai, and neither has the road congestion. Traffic towards the airport is currently slower in several areas. We recommend planning your commute in advance and checking your flight status before heading out. Our airport teams are on the ground and ready to support you as you travel. Maharashtra State Minister Ashish Shelar said, “I have taken complete information from all the Additional Commissioners and the head of Disaster Management. We have also provided information about the issues that came to my attention after reviewing the entire incident. As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, and following discussions with the Commissioner in Mumbai, all authorities have been informed to ensure the safe return home of all the children who have gone to school. While holiday has been declared for the afternoon session, schools and colleges… Wherever there is waterlogging, the pumps have been activated, and arrangements are being made to reduce water and resume work.”
