US immigration rules: U.S. President Donald Trump announced major plans to tighten immigration rules, including a suspension of migration from what he called “Third World Countries” and the cancellation of all federal benefits and subsidies for noncitizens in the country. The move came after the deadly attack by an Afghan national on two National Guard service members in Washington.
In posts on Truth Social, Trump said he would permanently pause migration from these countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover. However, he did not clearly define which nations are considered as“Third World,” but the term generally refers to countries with higher poverty and economic instability.
Trump’s Other Plans: What You Need to Know
According to a report by the AFP, Trump’s declaration vowed not only to halt future migration but also to reassess millions of immigration admissions issued under the previous Biden administration. His plan will also include deporting non-citizens who will fail to pass security checks. The Trump administration is also considering cutting off federal benefits for all non-US citizens.
Permanent halt on migration from third-world countries- Is India on the list?
According to the established global classifications, India is not in the same group as the UN-designated ‘Least Developed Countries’ (LDCs). So when the American president says that the migration from third-world countries will be paused, India will not be included in the list.
However, Trump did not define the term in policy terms; his remarks do not identify whether India would be included or excluded from his proposed immigration halt.
