Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK critical of actor turned politician Vijay’s new political party Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) ideology, accusing him of simply replicating existing policies. Reacting to this in an interview with Press Trust of India, the DMK leader TKS Elangoven also said that what Vijay has in mind is already being implemented by the DMK government.
At his first big public meeting Vijay directly targeted DMK ‘s “Dravidian model” and accused the Chief Minister MK Stalin of ‘cheating the public’ and using the state ‘loot ‘ through alleged underhand dealings. However, in response, Elangovan said that the DMK, which has been in politics for a very long time, has witnessed the coming and going of several contenders and that Vijay cannot be considered as a big force.

In articulating the core values of his party, Vijay said he borrowed some ideas from the social reformer Periyar’s views on social justice and women’s empowerment, but made a clarification to that the party would not endorse Periyar’s No god stand, “we are against nobody’s faith,” he had said. . Vijay also gave examples of other important leaders like Kamaraj, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, freedom fighter Velu Nachiar and revolutionary Anjalai Ammal as some guiding figures for the formulation of the policies of TVK.
Highlighting DMK’s 75 years journey and ideological roots, Mr Elangovan contrastred the willingness of DMK was built to fight for people’s issues, whereas Vijay’s party aspires to attain power by 2026. He stressed that other DMK leaders have stood up for the public compared to TVK, which according to him, does not have similar conviction.
AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan reacted and congratulated Vijay’s Political entrance but said he has a long way to go to deliver. But labeled TVK as ‘Cocktail as Sathyan also pointed, TVK is nothing but ‘old wine in the new bottle’, which strategy was a copy and paste of other Tamil Nadu political parties.
