The BCI recently scrubbed 107 unqualified lawyers from its list of practicing lawyers in Delhi as part of an ongoing initiative to uphold “integrity and professionalism” within the legal profession. Another statement on October 26, the BCI emphasized its determinationto removing fraudulent practitioners to safeguard public trust and ensure ethical standards in the legal system.
BCI secretary Srimanto Sen said that these 107 names were also included as part of an ongoing process of weeding out undesirable elementsto maintain high standards within Delhi’s legal community. From the preparation of this report in 2019 up to now, the BCI has undertaken research that exposed and disbarred thousands of impersonators for fake advocacy forged Certificates, enrolment scam, and inactivity in the practice of law. The BCI has been acting on these practices by putting tremendous pressure on rigorous verification.

This also aligns with the direction provided by the Supreme Court since the court has been handling the issue on fraudulent advocates. A high powered committee which the Apex Court directed upon the case Ajay Shanker Srivastava v. Bar Council of India has been seized with the responsibility of ensuring that the cases of forgery and misrepresentation are detected. All the cases under review were handled after rule amendments making BCI more competent at expelling those who violate professional standards. It also stressed that the BCI’s sustainable efforts in the following areas will escalate its endeavours to preserve the public confidence and the credibility of the legal profession.
