Variants of Chinese Ghost Weddings

Some consider that souls that die having desires, such as getting married, will never rest in peace after death. A living candidate participates in the ghost marriage, where the dead is symbolized by a photo of him or her, his or her clothes, and other belongings that he or she owns. This ritual, just like any traditional wedding, is conducted according to wedding customs. Yet, two other forms of ghost weddings in China include one involving a couple who either died before or during courtship, wherein the parents would then arrange a wedding and bury them together. The second is between people who were strangers all their life and are matched as a couple after death with the help of matchmakers.
