Suri, who works at Kleiner Perkins, posted a screenshot comparing the cost and time of taking an Uber versus flying on a Blade helicopter. The screenshot revealed that she was traveling from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, a distance of 18 miles (almost 29 km). Both Manhattan and Queens are boroughs of New York City.
Suri’s Uber fare was $131.99 (₹11,000) for a one-hour trip, while the Blade helicopter ride from Manhattan to JFK cost $165 for a five-minute trip.
“60-minute Uber or 5-minute helicopter ride – only a $30 difference,” Suri wrote on X, tagging Blade Air Mobility. Her post went viral with over 4 million views.
When asked whether she chose an Uber or a helicopter, Suri posted an aerial view of NYC, indicating she chose the helicopter.
Blade Air Mobility, based in New York City, mainly uses helicopters for passenger routes. It offers helicopter service between Manhattan and JFK, allowing customers to book a seat through the Blade app.
In the comments, Suri explained that she messaged Blade founder Rob Wiesenthal on Instagram about five years ago and has been a fan of the company since then. She mentioned that Blade users receive discount codes for referrals and shared her own code for anyone wanting $50 off their first Blade helicopter ride.
